The Unified Patent Court (UPC) is a European court established to provide a single, specialized forum for patent litigation across participating Member States of the European Union. It brings together leading patent judges from across Europe to deliver consistent and high quality decisions.
Since opening its doors in June 2023, the UPC has begun to reshape the European patent landscape, offering a streamlined system for enforcing and challenging European patents. Its decisions have significant and lasting (cross-border) impact in a large European territory.
This collection of laws includes (i) the Rules of Procedure of the UPC and (ii) other relevant legal texts settling out the legal framework of the Unitary Patent and the UPC. It is intended to support practitioners and stakeholders in navigating this constantly evolving system of European patent litigation.

Wim Maas holds a professorship in International Patent Litigation at Católica Global School of Law in Lisbon and is a seasoned trial attorney focusing on high-stakes patent litigation across different industries, including Telecoms/ IT and Life Sciences. He is also the author of several articles on the UPC and books in the field of intellectual property, including a book on the European Enforcement Directive and on the Seizure of Evidence.
